History

Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in 1919. The company was initially established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The company's first name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.



During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling equipment. In the year 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years. Currently, SMAG is the world's market leader, utilizing grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and worldwide cargo handling applications.
