Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety

Approximately 200 deaths each and every year are caused by accidents which involve forklifts, or lift trucks. Correct inspection and maintenance of lift truck tires can help to reduce the risk of accidents.

Pre-Work Check

Before the start of each shift, the tires on the lift truck must be checked for indications of damage and wear. The air pressure inside the tires needs to be inspected to make sure that the pressure is not too low. Low tire pressure can make the equipment susceptible to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Kinds of Tires

The tire type of the lift truck would be based upon the kind of floor surface which the forklift would operate on. Solid rubber tires are great for indoor application. For smoother surfaces, tires tend to be smaller. Larger pneumatic tires are best for lift trucks being used outdoors. Pneumatic tires are able to grip well on surfaces that are rough as they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other Considerations

Any lift truck used on a continual basis must be checked at the end of every shift, based on OSHA guidelines. The tires must be inspected again for any indication of damage, like for instance cuts or wear.

Forklift Safety

Forklift safety is important for any employer or employee utilizing a lift truck since lift truck accidents can be serious leading to personal injuries and even death. Even minor accidents can cost you and your company money if the merchandise or the forklift are damaged in a mishap. Be sure you really know a lot concerning forklift safety problems.
