Back in the year 1946, Wally Johnson began to create the markets for the aerial work platforms and scaffold towers all by himself. He attained this by starting a business that became UpRight. Mr. Wally Johnson was an extremely gifted mechanical engineer who resided in Berkeley, Austin. He stumbled upon access equipment when he began looking for a a way to paint his house.
Mr. Johnson found it hard to look for capable scaffolding when he began a home painting project. Existing scaffolding could not deal with the uneven terrain on his property. After being very discontented with his choices, he decided to design his own aluminum scaffold tower along with adjustable legs.
The Snorkel Company was also established the same year within St. Joseph, Missouri. This small company helped to revolutionize the new elevating boom lift. The machine was produced for firefighting and rescue work. In less than 2 decades, the technology had developed into self-propelled boom lifts.
The very first self-propelled lift was sold by Snorkel in 1977. This specialized product line did not take long to become the main business for the company.
Wallace Johnson rapidly catapulted to the top of the industry with his new scaffold. When he had accomplished this field, he decided to start all over and make the first self-propelled aerial lift in the globe.
Mr. Johnson in the year 1972, opened a factory in Selma, where he made the "Flying Carpet" scissor lift. After this new and exciting equipment exploded onto the marketplace, the ground-breaking product soon out-ranked the scaffolding component as the company`s main source of revenue.
Wallace Johnson passed away in 1980. At that time, the company UpRight Inc. was sold but his inventive and pioneering spirit lived on. During the year 1994, UpRight introduced the world's very first micro-scissors. They went on to pioneer the TM12, which is the self-propelled mast lift.
